My Momma Pants: For years, I cracked pepper while telling stories and jokes at the dinner table, elbowing the kids….”now that’s Fing Funny.” I worked crowds on soccer fields, in grocery lines and in school halls. My kids tirelessly educated me on current trends while I read the urban dictionary to stay a “dope hipster.” My husband just stared as he cooked our dinner, as his patience grew thinner. In an effort to avoid embarrassment, my family kicked me out of suburbia. I headed to an open mic…but what should I wear? I stood in my closet contemplating which capris to wear. Suddenly from a shelf above, my mother’s red checkered pants fell upon my head. After profanity, I slipped them on my fanny. They fit like Cinderella’s shoe and my mouth began to spew. Now for the first time in my life, this marching band dropout and helicopter mother, feels alive playing her first team sport, improv, and playing pretend on stage with funny friends. F(orget) scrap booking. I am a former Human Resources Manager, a former Elementary Teacher, and a former PTA Officer….I feel liberated by comedy, a place I can be political and sometimes correct. Those pants have unleashed my inner mother! And a show was born!The show is a labor of love.
